Sad Celebrity News and Cookie Pie

I read yesterday on MSN Entertainment that one of my all time favorite comedic actors passed away - Don Knotts who was 81 years. One of my very favorite TV shows growing up was Three's Company. When John Ritter suddenly died a couple of years ago, I was so devistated to hear the sad news! Don Knotts made me laugh so much playing the high-strung, would-be swinger landlord Mr. Ralph Furley. Oh he was such a scream, he made the show that much more enjoyable to watch! Thanks for the memories Don, say hi to John.

On a lighter note....

Last night we had dinner at Wayne's mom's, she never fails to let us down with those amazing home cooked meals!! OK now I have to say that the best part of this roast dinner was the scrumptious chocolate chip cookie pie! OH FOR HEAVEN SAKE - whoever came up with that recipe, I'd love to shake their hand! LOL!!! So where can we get this recipe you say?? Go to www.kraftcanada.com and type it in the search. I'm going to sign up to get more recipes each week. THANKS MOM!!! Too bad Sam missed out...I'll make that for her next birthday.

Beautiful Red Head

Sam is always getting so many comments on her hair color wherever we go. You can also see the inherited curls coming in. Wayne's mom said to me the other day "she's going to be the next Nicole Kidman!" There may be hope for us yet, moving to Hollywood.

Hey my little tweetie bird, I have connections in this biz!

*wink wink, nudge nudge*

Love,

Mommy

Back to WORK!

Well I'm officially back on the work schedule at the vet hospital. Only for Saturdays and Wednesdays. I guess I'll see how 2 days a week go for me, as I'm still nursing so this could be a challenge. I've worked it out with my dear mother inlaw who's agreed to come in from a 45 min. drive to watch Sam at 8am. This could also be a challenge so we'll see how it all works out. I may just take the one day a week if it's too much for us both. I've got one week left - I'll 'woop it up' as much as I can until then...lol!

Playgroups

Sam and I have been going regularly to play group again. It's been a long time, since before Christmas I believe! Seems since then everythings been going on, either we've been sick or I just fell out of it all and got myself into a rut. I prefer that Sam is out and interacting with other kids, as she just loves to play! Gymboree has definitely been our new discovery and we're now back at the old drop-in center for "Little Crawlers". It was nice to meet a girl who is friends with my sister inlaw! We met once last summer at Norm's 40'th birthday party when her baby boy was only 3 weeks old. Then we introduced ourselves again yesterday when we noticed our familiar faces in the lobby. She asked "are you Ilona's sister inlaw?" What a small world! It really was a good day. Saw other playdate pals and met new ones too. Can't wait until Tracy can get in on this....(hey Trace?? lol) You'll LOVE it! Especially because I know you just love meeting new people, you're going to have a ball! You and "Twig" LOL

Technically Inclined??

I think Sam knows how to work the VCR. For the past couple of weeks I've just chalked it up to a fluke when I suddenly hear the TV program change to her Baby Einstein video. She LOVES to push buttons, but these days she's figured out the ONE button that plays her video. OR...if I've ejected it but forgot to take it out, she knows just to push it back in and it will play. Hmmmmm...is this real or did she really get her technical skills from daddy? (ha ha) Sometimes I still look at her as this little baby and forget she just turned one!

Some other things we've done so far this week....had her 1 year portraits done at Sears. Being in a strange place I knew she wouldn't be happy, but the photographer scared her even more. I know her intentions were good and fun when she'd make loud clapping noises or sound effects to make her laugh. Sam doesn't know this person from Adam and also wonders where she is and why. Poor thing bawled her head off nearly the entire time, but we DID manage to get 2 good pictures. Can't wait until I pick them up. I'll be sending them out soon to all of you! Today we'll go to Gymboree....i just love that place! Yesterday we were going to go, but I wanted to visit Nanny, as we hadn't seen her in a while. it's been a busy year so far!

Ice Rain and Blustery Day

We've been in a storm watch for 2 days. It finally hit from Colorado - thick ice developed, making it dangerous to drive out there. Blustery winds make snow squalls and it's very cold out!....not something I want to be out in. I've cancelled my dentist appointment and will bunker in with Sam for the day. Sam is now standing in between furniture on her own, trying desperately to take steps. She very easily walks beside you holding one hand. I just KNOW she'll be walking soon!

I am 1 !!

Happy Birthday Sam! We went to Gymboree today with our playgroup pal Dawn and her daughter Angelie. Took lots of cute pics! Afterwards we took a mall stroll, bought a couple of things and went home. Wayne made a nice chicken and rice dinner and bought mini cupcakes to sing happy birthday. After dinner Sam and daddy played a lot - it's so fun to watch them laughing their heads off! We had a really good day, thanks for the bday wishes Tray! And a lens cap is one of the things I picked up today so don't worry about that! no prob - only 5 bucks. Nighty night - Sam wants to sleep after her hard day.

Birthday and Valentine Baby

Happy Valentine's Day everyone! I have been so busy these past few days I haven't been able to blog and there's so much! Tonight Wayne and I took Sam for our traditional Valentine's Day dinner at a Japanese restaurant. Poor Max the cat had to spend the day at the vet clinic for sedation, bloodwork and xrays. He's been sick on and off and losing weight since December. We'll see what the results bring tomorrow. Until then Max is sleeping the drugs off in his cage.

Sunday we had Sam's first birthday party, even though it's tomorrow. We had the family over and Auntie Tracy, with a Tinkerbell theme and princess cake. Of course Sam had the first piece and she mushed it up in her hands, not knowing what do do with it. About 5 - 10 minutes later she finally started tasting it. Her face looked so unsure as she'd look around at everyone's reaction.....eight of us staring back at her, cheering her on. She got a beautiful summer dress with matching hat and cute little princess and frog doll from Aunt Tracy, a talking Fisher Price piggy bank from Aunty Ilona et al, and money from gran for college. Mommy and daddy bought her a Little Golden Books collection - the ones I grew up with. It's all on video, we had a great time.

Birthday Caos and Tickets and more!

Last night Wayne took me to Red Lobster for my birthday dinner. This has been a tradition for the past couple of years. This year, with Sam in the back, on our way to the restaurant we were rear ended by some 20-something guy.....Sam screamed her head off....I felt my neck and head numbing by the seconds and Wayne's back suddenly seized up. He still jumped out of the car to take Sam out. She stopped crying a little bit and I kept asking him if she was ok. Caught up in my emotions I jumped out and immediately yelled at the guy while Wayne tried to get me back in the car. I realized Sam was ok and I got back in. The people in front of us got out and called 911. The police, ambulance and fire trucks came.....assessed everything....we were ok, Sam ok, car no scratches and all is well after an hour later. The guy who hit us got a ticket and his front bumper smashed. Amazing we had nothing! So off we continue for the lobster feast. Wayne handed 3 cards to me in a certain order, one by one as I opened them. The first one from Sam with a picture of a large coupon drawn on the blank side of the card. It read something like "this coupon entitles you to a free ticket to the George Strait concert so you can be happy" . WOW!!!! OH MY!!! So a card handed to me from our cat Max....the same thing but read..."this coupon entitles you to a free ticket to the George Strait concert with a friend so you won't be alone." (wayne hates country music). EVEN MORE WOWWWWW!!!!!! THEN!!......A card from yours truly......the same hand drawn picture of a coupon which reads...."This coupon entitles you to a free ultimate massage to any package of your choice at The Spa. AM I SPOILED THIS YEAR OR WHAT!!! THen we came home to a cake and candles, he sang happy birthday and I blew out 10 candles (after making a wish of course) not missing one. He was glad I don't have any boyfriends....lol
So I got right on it this morning. Tickets were on sale at 10am. I bought them online and managed to get 2 floor tickets!! This is going to be so awesome.

So another fantastic ending to an amazing birthday. Thank you Mister for being you and also ...... TRACY - get your cowboy boots on my friend, we're going to George Strait! (You'll be very pregnant but I'm sure "Twig" will get her first taste of real music!)
Which is another thing to blog about....congratulations to Tracy and John on their upcoming arrival in September! You'll be amazing parents.....what a joy to come!!! And a playmate for Sam!

Love Heidi

....AND of course...

NOT to forget our 'Milestone' dinner ! LOL! Tracy and I just got back from trying out a new restaurant for my 35th and it was TRES yummy! Service....not so good, but all in all I had such a great time as usual! Sam was such a good girl on our 'girls night out' ! Lots of people couldn't help but stop and talk to her. She had her first order from the kids menu....a multigrain grilled cheddar sandwich...minus the fries but I had the cantelope anyway. I ended up taking her jar of food out to top her up. She kept pulling on my shirt to nurse so things got a bit hectic near the end. Tracy bought me a cute little Best Friends coffee mug with a bag of dark roast coffe on the side... can't wait to try that in the AM! I invited Tracy over for a rum cake and I opened her card which made me tear up. Thank you for another great ending to another great birthday - you're forever my best friend!

Another Birthday

I'm 35. Oh my GOD. 35...what is THAT! Another birthday I guess, that's all...lol. Now I know what people mean when they don't look forward to birthdays anymore. My birthday every year had to be the BIGGEST event. The perfect day where nothing went wrong and every minute was spent celebrating. The day started at the spa or salon getting ready for whatever the evening had in store for me. Then I'd go shopping for something to wear and I'd show up all decked out in perfect hair, makeup with tons of friends around me. Things have slowed down quite a bit since then. Now it's another birthday, but with a more mature attitude I guess you can say. I haven't felt much like celebrating for some reason....maybe it has to do with motherhood; all I want to do is plan Sam's first year party! I've had phone calls and cards in the mail and I had a wonderful drive to see my mother in law with Sam in the back seat. I couldn't have asked for a better day really. It's now the things that really matter to me - friends and family. Wayne comes back from Winnipeg tonight so he'll take me out for seafood tomorrow night. It's an ongoing celebration and I get to eat lobster. I also hope to get some George Strait tickets for his June concert. I wouldn't miss it for the world!!

Sam's First Cold

Sorry for no updates for the past week. Sam and I have been quite sick with colds and now Wayne got it two days ago. He's finally home this week which is nice. His cousin Steve came to visit today and is staying until Friday. The pull-out sofa is in Sam's room so we had to move her crib into our room to let Steve sleep in hers. Other than us being sick, there really isn't any news to give until we're back to our normal activities. We went to playgroup for the first time in a long time last week. It was nice to see Sam play with her friends again. It's amazing how quickly these babies grow up. It seems like yesterday they were all blobs on the floor and now they're all over the place and standing and touching eachother's face, pulling hair, being curious about everything. Sam's first birthday is coming up on the 15th. We bought her a Gymnastics Play Tunnel and I cannot wait to watch her have fun with it. She's not walking yet but hopefully soon. She's more eager to crawl and play with whatever's on the floor or chase the cat around or even better, play with the cat's toys instead of her own. Max doesn't mind her throwing or waving his mice in the air - he likes his new playmate. "Finally" he says, "someone pays attention to me!" Her night waking is still going on but these past couple of days haven't been that bad. Guess her little body needs it. I know I do! It's hard to be up at the crack of dawn and chase her around when my body's got flu aches and I'm dying to go back to bed. Like my Aunt told me.... "didn't you know you're not allowed to be sick when you're a mom?!" I can't wait until I can hug my mom again. ....lol
