Sad About My 'Days'

Ok - don't pin me as your stereotypical housewife/stay-at-home mom when I say this. Days of Our Lives has a new head writer who's planning to revamp the show. I have just read the 'comings and goings' section on one of my soap websites and surprisingly found out how many actors are being let go! AND - it happens to be ALL of my favorite characters and story lines...I'm completely in shock, not to mention sad and disappointed to learn that these actors leave the show. I have been watching them for so many years and the story lines were actually getting really good, compared to the last year or so I was getting a bit bored. Perhaps it's the reason for the new head writer. We'll see how it all turns out and if I'll be able to keep interested.

K...there you go, laugh all you want...lol....and no, my Sam wasn't named after the 'Sammy' character....Wayne actually named her. (ok I nicknamed her...lol)

Recovering

Thank you guys for your well wishes. I am finally on the road to recovery after a very long and frustrating week, which seemed more like a month! My cough started out with a fever and body aches for three days. then when I thought I was getting better it all just went to my head for another 3 days and I don't know which felt worse. Anyhoo, today I feel much better and so does Sam (finally). She still has nasal congestion and runny nose but the doctor said it's from environmental allergies, as I'd posted recently. It's also still viral so by Wed. if she's not better she'll need a puffer to help the allergies so she can get rid of her cold. Wayne just left for Toronto today and he's only gone for 3 days - we were glad to have him back from Calgary a few days ago. I sure hope he doesn't catch it. We've all been careful with one another.
Sam's having her nap right now and I can finally have a little down time. I haven't had much rest, as all you mothers know we are not allowed to be sick when looking after our kids. I just go to bed at night when Sam does and hope for the best. It really sucks getting up at 6am when all you want to do is sleep and knowing you have to change diapers, make breakfast, run here, run there, etc... and your body is a dead weight and your head weighs a ton. You understand. Anyway, enough of that.....the
The Primetime Emmy Awards is on tonight!! Popcorn and jammy time for us! (hey wait a minute, I'm still in my jammies..) Although I'm not familiar with most of the primetime shows, I still like to watch who's coming down the red carpet, 'WHO' they're wearing, and watch who wins what, listen to speaches and gush over their perfect makeup. This is Sam's new intro to the awards and also preps her for the Oscars...lol She'll probably just play with her blocks but we must educate them early. And I also love Sundays. Especially when it's cool and rainy out and you can just bunker in and veg however you please. Hmmmm, maybe I'll make some hummus and pita too.

Sick

Sam's cold is very slowly on the mend. Her cough is still hanging on and her nose is a running faucet. It has been ongoing for over 2 weeks now. I've come down with the cough 2 days ago and even had a fever overnight. I heard it's been going around and goes on for a month! I sure hope not, but it is what it is, as Wayne would say. Summer is going by so quickly and I hate keeping Sam indoors for this length of time.....but NOW until I'm feeling up to it, looks like we'll be inside for a lot longer.

Photographing Our Babies

I got this idea from Michelle's blog and wanted to post my favorite picture I took of Sam. Join in on this and post one of your favorite baby photos. Share what you like about it or what went "right" with the shot.

I have a kabillion photos of her and there's one I've always loved - it has so much character and she's only 3 months old. I just finished changing her on her rug (of course with a protective mat underneath lol). I had her sunglasses and my camera within reach and thought it would make a great shot. I even managed to get a smile out of her so it turned out fab! I've named it the Elton John photo.... it's now in my scrapbook.

Cough Update

Thanks for your comments you guys. I took her to the doctor again this morning and it turns out Sam does have a bit of a viral thing going on. He said it's also magnified from what seems to be from environmental allergies. 'Tis the season for ragweed so she'll be extra 'coughy' for a while. Hopefully for not too long. She's too young to be tested for animal dander, but I'll be getting that done as soon as she's able. We have a big fluffy Max in the house, which I'm sure could contribute to the whole thing. I'll just have to vacuum him more often - he loves it, it's hilarious. If anyone has a cat, try it. It's way more effective than brushing and then you can run a damp cloth over him afterwards to eliminate allergens. There are pet cloths out there or bottles of solution to wet a cloth of your own.
(k that will be $1.00 please) lol

Cough Cough

Poor Sam has had a bad nagging cough since we were in Alberta. At first it sounded like she was choking on her drool, as her eye teeth have been trying to come in for the last month and a half. She isn't sick with a cold. I took her to the doctor when we came back and she was fine. I'm giving her a cough supressant at night to help her sleep. Last night she coughed so hard she threw up. During the day it's barely there. She has her 18 month check next week so we'll see if her chest has changed at all. My poor little baby girl. I hate to see her like this when there's not much I can do. Since our trip she's been very cranky and quite needy. I barely have time to do anything, she wants me to hold her or be around her all the time or she cries. It's hard to see her this way, but it will pass I'm sure.

More Pics of Our Trip

My mother having a nice little moment with Sam.

A wheelbarrow ride from my dad. She LAUGHED so hard!

Another of my dad at the park.

This is Sam's GREAT grandmother whom we stayed with.

Sam's cousin's car was one of her favorites at
my cousin Craig's place.

Craig took her for her first quad ride all over his acreage. She seemed to like it, but cried to get off once it stopped.

What Time of Day Are You?

I got this from another blog (thanks Trace!) and thought I'd find out what time of day I am (although I already knew). I'm a morning person and always have..even more now having a baby. I find the morning to be the most enjoyable for me. It's always been 'ME TIME' when I wake up with my coffee waiting, ready-made. Sam's usually still sleeping a bit so I'll turn on the computer and do my blog-walk and catch up on emails. Even if Sam's up I put her in front of the TV with milk and scattered Cheerios on the floor. I HAVE to have this time for a half hour or so before I start my day with Sam - it's so important. Even before Sam came along I enjoyed lounging in my pj's with my coffee, taking my time to do whatever. I cannot have it any other way - I need to ease into the day. What about you?

You Are Sunrise

You enjoy living a slow, fulfilling life. You enjoy living every moment, no matter how ordinary.
You are a person of reflection and meditation. You start and end every day by looking inward.
Caring and giving, you enjoy making people happy. You're often cooking for friends or buying them gifts.
All in all, you know how to love life for what it is - not for how it should be.

More New Stuff

There she is again living up to her name: my little monkey. Sam climbs so much I have to watch so closely. She's walking the stairway up AND down. Unlike going up, her attempts downstairs are very unsuccessful. Yesterday she fell down TWICE - the first time I thought she slipped down from crawling. The second time around I finally figured out both times she's trying to walk down the stairs. She now has a rug burn on her left eye but is quite a trooper!

Another new thing she's into is walking in mommy's flip flops. She even knows it goes between the toes and she slides across the floor - it's so funny to watch!

She's also talking so much gibberish which sounds like she's trying soooo hard to talk. Sometimes it sounds like words because her consonants and vowels are so pronounced. She's understanding how to verbally communicate. Instead of just grabbing our hand to drag us somewhere, now she'll grab and say, "DAH - ah -ah.." and points while pulling us to the door to go out or to help her climb the stairs. We'll tell her to bring us her shoes and she does it. She's understanding the art of language so much these days. It should be no time before she starts talking; we can hear it.

Little Sammy On the Prairie

Hi All - we're back from our trip to Alberta! Sam was an angel on the plane - to and from Edmonton. She slept most the way and was entertained by passengers around us for the remaining time. The time change never seemed to mix her up much - maybe an hour off her bedtime or naps...she did so very well we were all impressed. Sam had way too much fun seeing horses and playing with cousins at bbq's. The wedding was beautiful and my reunion with old school friends was a hoot! We stayed with her GREAT grandmother for the entire trip - she was so happy to have finally met her. Sam also met her other set of grandparents for the first time and spent a couple of days with them. Here are some pictures...

Sam in the park with her grandpa (this is my dad - they really hit it off!)

Mommy and Sam feeding horses (although Sam seemed to be more interested in grandma's watering can).

Grandpa gave Sam a ride in his wheelbarrow.....she thought that was the greatest!

Playing great grandma's organ
