First Boo Boo & Molars

Last night I was trimming Sam's nails when she pulled her thumb away and I accidently clipped a chunk of skin - it bled so much and I couldn't stop it! She wailed and wailed and I felt sooooo horrible!! It's now a skin flap hanging, so I covered her little thumb up with a pink Hello Kitty bandage until I think it's safe to leave off without getting infected. Poor Sammy!

On top of it all, her first molars on the top are giving her so much pain - she can't eat or sleep and needs to nurse constantly....even after I give her Motrin. She's very miserable this week. She looks like she's got a bit of a cold but I'm sure it's all because of her teeth. My poor little baby girl.

Sam Pictures

I finally got my camera up and running again - I had to recharge the battery so I could get these pictures uploaded, but I got sick...that was a month ago! Now that I'm feeling better and have some time, here are some updated shots of Sam.

Here she is now at 14 months - I took this yesterday before our walk. The weather was so beautiful!

Here she is a month ago with her bucket of balls I bought for her. She loves to throw them down the stairs and watch them bounce all over, it's hilarious.

Is she praying the ball will bounce as high as the sky will take it?

(She wasn't expecting this shot obviously) She loves her Little People barnyard animals too!

She loves to climb on things, including my step stool, which she's fallen off of quite a few times. (look at those chubby little hands!) She looks a lot like Wayne in this shot.

I Was Tagged!

I was tagged by Beth! Here are the rules to play this fun game: Tag 4 people. List a few Weird Facts about yourself...the weirder the better....lol. Leave the links to the blogs of the people you tagged so they can be easily found. Here are the people I've tagged so far:

Tracy

Dan

Some Weird Facts About Me (where do I begin?? lol!!)

  1. Wayne tucks me in at bedtime every single night.... just like a little kid. I cannot go to bed without being tucked in!
  2. When I want to go back to 'simpler times' I drive around with my 80's country music cranked up.
  3. I love Kraft Singles wrapped around dill pickles for snacking on.
  4. I mumble to myself when I putter around (ok maybe this goes beyond weird)
  5. My favorite movie of all time for years used to be Grease 2 - the cheesiest of all time. I watched it 19 times when I was 14 years old. I idolized Michelle Pfeiffer's character. I can recite the movie script word for word to this day.
  6. I'm in LOVE with the Beach Boys' music and obsessed with anything 'California'... palm trees, ocean, surfing. It's so weird! ANd since I can remember. I used to lay in my back yard as a young girl with Hawaiian shirts on listening to the Beach Boys and tan until I was a roasted chicken! Who ever did that at my age in that era??

That's all I can think of now but if anyone can help me out....lol I'll post some more later.

Happy Easter

Wayne's in Toronto now and feeling 'alright'. Poor guy he's got a lot of travelling in the next 3 weeks.
We hope everyone had a nice Easter weekend! We had a lovely lamb dinner Wayne's mom made for us, along with Easter treats for not only the kids but for us big kids. Then yesterday Sam gave me a wonderful gift - she said MAMA! she said it over and over so clearly and I got so excited I hugged her and praised her clapping, "yes! mama!" She squeeled with excitement back at me and said it over and over the rest of the day. Today she woke up and said it to me again. It's so nice to finally have that communication with her - that she can voice it to me! It was so neat, after all this time it just came out so simply - ma ma. this cute little pretty voice.

Poor Wayne

Yesterday my poor hubby came down with the stomach flu - the same one I suffered 2 weeks ago. It was so horrible to go through I felt so bad for him. I didn't leave the house - I wanted to make sure he was ok. Before bed he managed to eat a bit of chicken soup. Today he's on the mend so far but it's early to tell. We've cancelled tomorrow's Easter lunch with Nan and Wayne's mom here at the house, as we don't want Nan to catch anything and bring it back to the home. Saturday is Easter dinner at mom's so we'll be ready to eat a full meal by then I'm sure. LAMB!! MMMMM!!!! Sunday Wayne leaves for Toronto so let's hope he's recovered by then.

Growing Up

Sam seems to be growing up so fast right before our very eyes lately and just in the last week. Today she crawled, stopped and spontaneously stood up and walked about 6 steps straight to Wayne....it was like....where did that come from?? Not long ago she was so careful and kept her slow baby steps to about 3. Now she's so brave! and quick! She's also sprouting another incisor beside the bottom teeth. The first molars are hurting her pretty badly but she's a trooper. She's sleeping longer in the mornings and not eating a lot of her meals. It could be we're cutting up our food for her and she's not used to it, but she doesn't seem to want to eat anything. I bought a baby recipe book which I find helpful, as it includes a menu guide for 12 - 18 month old which is exactly what I was looking for. And it has all the recipes it suggested! I shouldn't worry if she doesn't eat because if she's hungry enough she'll eat her next meal. Tonight she ate some chicken which surprised me, and quite a bit of sweet potatoes but she's always liked those. After dinner daddy and I took Sam for a walk to the park and we played on the slide. SHE LOVED the slide and daddy even went down with her a couple of times. You should have heard her laughing! Wayne took her by one hand and she took off walking into the sand, she loved the sand! We cannot wait to get out tomorrow. I'm so glad the weather is finally warm, it's so great to get out! AH and mommy's back to good health, I just need some good exercise and another week of good food and I'll gain that weight back in no time. Daddy's home this week and he's off to Toronto again next week. It sure is nice to be spending this time with him. We don't get a lot of family time and it's something I cherish so much.

Molars!

We're back from the pediatrician today and he saw her molars coming in! Poor Sammy, she sure has been going through a lot - that's 5 teeth coming in at once including molars which are so painful! So he said to definitely hold off the weaning for another month while they work their way in and finish their job.
Plus I got a few good tips and information I've been dying to ask him since she's turned a year old, as far as her diet and sleeping pattern's concerned. Sam's usually slept like a dream. In the past few months she's been having such a hard time puting herself either back to sleep in the night and we have to help her, or she insists to nurse. For 2 months it's been nursing.... at 4am!! I bring her back to bed with me so I can sleep. The doctor said she's not hungry and that it's only a comfort feed, with all of the teeth she's getting (which I already figured it could be). Now to train her to just sleep again but I have to wait a month for the molars. Last night wasn't that bad. She woke up at 5:30.
Her menu has been another issue for me. I am someone who doesn't like to cook and hates the idea of facing everyday decisions of dinner ideas. I mean...who doesn't right? I'm sure most people feel this way, especially after a day's work and kids on top of it. Well I have to join everyone else and tweek my meals to make it "toddler friendly" AND Wayne friendly all at the same time. I love my husband, he works so hard and I wish I could make amazing fabulous meals for him when he gets home. I can eat anything. He is the pickiest eater and doesn't make this whole process easy. Wayne loves to cook too and he takes after his mother...he is a wonderful cook! So he volunteers a lot in the kitchen when he can....and it's great! So I have a wonderful amazing loving husband who can also cook an awesome meal to help out and I'm really lucky for that. But I cannot depend on that all the time. I really do want to be somewhat domestic and have a little influence on Sam as a mother....making cookies and pies and pack her favorite lunches or make fun pancakes on the weekends. I'm going to donate all of Sam's Toddler jars to the food bank, enough is enough...she has to start eating more off our plates. ..And she has been but she doesn't like some things and just throws it and won't eat it. It's so frustrating. So that's another topic I touched on with the doctor and he gave me some great tips with that and told me about a 10 minute rule - to let her play/test it out/experiment and then to spoon it up later and give it to her. It sounds so simple. I guess the toddler jars were the easiest answer but it's not, as far as nutrition goes. Things have to change and it's been on my mind for weeks. I'm glad I've got my guidance and now I figure out from here.

Tooth 7

Sam has another tooth on the other side of her top teeth! I knew they'd come in at once... which kind of puts a hold on my plans to wean her for another week or two. Wayne's in Toronto this week anyway so it will be easier when he's home to help. I'm still pretty weak from that nasty stomach flu last week, as I've lost 10lbs and I'm slowly on the road to getting that back. Will be nice when I can feel normal again.

Sam is also out of whack from the time change. Her naps and bedtime are really out of sinc. Anyone else out there with the same problem???
